There’s at least an argument that studios are getting worse at predicting what audiences will respond to, and Blumhouse Productions’ most recent sci-fi thrillermay be one small recent example. This is a movie Universal pulled from theaters, reportedly shopped elsewhere, and ultimately released on digital platforms on Aug. 1 with relatively little fanfare. Even so, the early audience response on Rotten Tomatoes appears to have been fairly warm.
