HBO is no stranger to book adaptations, with its lineup featuring well-known ones, like Band of Brothers and Game of Thrones, as well as smaller hits, like The Leftovers and Sharp Objects. One of its best book-to-screen adaptations is from its thriller catalog, and it was so good that the network renewed it, even though it meant moving beyond the events of the source material. That can be a risky decision, especially when readers tend to value fidelity. However, in this case, it worked out for the project at hand.
