There’s no denying that the action genre was propped up in the 80s and 90s thanks to over-the-top heroes played by the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Their movies propelled the genre to heights unseen, and allowed new stars to emerge in the 2000s that brought their own flair to the silver screen. Men like Jason Statham and Tony Jaa found success, as did women like Milla Jovovich and Angelina Jolie thanks to Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Also on that list is a true icon of action who would later go on to appear in the John Wick franchise, and now has one of his own movies climbing the charts.
