Cole Palmer: Chelsea footballer launches range of ‘premium craft ice’ for £2 a bag

The player's range of ice is a nod to his 'Cold Palmer' nickname

Chelsea and England footballer Cole Palmer has put his World Cup snub behind him by launching a new range of “premium craft ice” with grocery delivery platform Gopuff.

The “Cole’d” product range – a nod to his nickname “Cold Palmer” – includes chewable “pebble ice” with added electrolytes, and large, football-shaped “ice spheres”, and is available in the UK and US.

It marks the start of a multi-year partnership between Palmer – a surprising omission from England’s squad for the World Cup – and Gopuff, a competitor to Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

“Gopuff was already part of the routine, so when they came to me with the idea, it just made sense,” said Palmer.

“What started as a bit of fun turned into something proper. I’ve been involved in everything – the product, the packaging, the content – and that’s what interested me.

“The fans started the whole ‘Cold Palmer’ thing in the first place, so it’s nice to turn that into something everyone can be part of.”

A 2kg bag of Cole’d pebble ice with electrolytes costs £2.50 from Gopuff. A four-pack of Cole’d football craft ice is £4, while 2kg of Cole’d regular ice is £2.

Palmer World Cup snub hits Coca-Cola and Nike campaigns

It comes after Palmer and his management last year trademarked the Cold Palmer name and images of his shivering goal celebration.

They were forced to drop an application to trademark it for wine and other alcohol products after a challenge from prestigious French vineyard Chateau Palmer.

The 24-year-old forward was widely expected to be part of England’s World Cup squad, a status that earned him spots in tournament advertising campaigns with Coca-Cola and Nike.

“Gopuff has become the platform where the world’s best athletes and creators come to do things differently, turning bold ideas into products our customers love,” said Gopuff co-founder Yakir Gola.

“With Cole’d, we’re reimagining one of the most essential everyday items through innovation, introducing the world’s first electrolyte ice.

“By partnering with one of the best footballers in the world, Cole Palmer, we’re continuing to bring first-of-their-kind products directly to our customers.”
