Crimethrillers have never been more popular, but they’ve naturally become a little predictable. Every streaming service seems to have another story about a smart, brooding detective with a troubled past, another serial killer leaving cryptic clues, or another conspiracy that stretches itself too thin. I still love the genre, but it takes a lot more to impress me than it did a decade ago. Great crime TV thrillers don’t just keep you guessing; they create characters and stories you can’t stop thinking about even after the show is over.
