The Strokes and Phoebe Bridgers among musical guests for new episodes of ‘SNL’

The Strokes and Phoebe Bridgers have been confirmed as musical guests for upcoming episodes of Saturday Night Live.

The long-running US sketch show announced its next three instalments on Thursday (October 22), with The Strokes set to appear on November 7 alongside host Druski, while Bridgers will perform on November 14, when John Mulaney hosts.

The show will return from its current break on October 31 for a Halloween episode hosted by Obsession star Inde Navarrette, with Gracie Abrams as musical guest.

The Strokes’ appearance will be their fifth on SNL, following previous performances in 2002, 2006, 2011 and 2020.

Their most recent visit came on Halloween 2020, when they performed ‘The Adults Are Talking’ and ‘Bad Decisions’ from their sixth album ‘The New Abnormal’. That episode was also hosted by Mulaney.

Meanwhile, Bridgers is set for her second appearance as a solo musical guest, having made her debut in February 2021, when she performed ‘Kyoto’ and ‘I Know The End’ from her 2020 album ‘Punisher’. The latter performance became a viral moment after she smashed her Danelectro guitar against a stage monitor during the song’s climax, prompting a heated online debate.

Bridgers later revealed that the manufacturer had given her permission to destroy the instrument, while the monitor was a fake prop specifically made for the performance. The guitar was subsequently sold at auction for $101,500, raising money for the GLAAD Media Awards.

Bridgers also returned to SNL in November 2023 as a member of Boygenius, alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. The trio performed ‘Not Strong Enough’ and ‘Satanist’ in matching suits inspired by The Beatles, during an episode hosted by Timothée Chalamet.

The Strokes released their seventh studio album ‘Reality Awaits’ in July, their first record in six years. In a four-star review, NME praised the band’s playful approach, writing that they sounded “more alive and locked in than they have in years”.

Earlier this month, the group played their first UK concerts in three years at London’s O2 Arena, with the shows featuring a mixture of old favourites and new material.

Bridgers, meanwhile, released her third solo album ‘Lost Weekend’ in August, ending a six-year wait following ‘Punisher’.

The record became her first solo UK Number One album, while NME awarded it five stars, describing it as a “staggering, strange and stirring opus”.

She is currently on the North American leg of her phone-free ‘Lost Tour’, which will arrive in the UK and Europe next month, including performances in Dublin, Manchester and London.

Elsewhere, Abrams’ Halloween appearance will be her second time as an SNL musical guest and follows the release of her third studio album ‘Daughter From Hell’ in July.

Druski, meanwhile, will make his hosting debut on November 7, becoming the first digital content creator to host the show. The comedian hosted the BET Awards earlier this year, while Mulaney will be returning for his seventh hosting stint.
