CMU Selects – the last week’s standout releases
Lambrini Girls’ two new singles, ‘The Basement’ and ‘Spilt’

Two sides of the same coin. ‘The Basement’ is a scuzzy punk burner aimed furiously at the manosphere, the sound of a band at full tilt. Then ‘Spilt’ pulls the rug out: acoustic guitar, stripped raw, an intimate meditation on alcohol dependency. The contrast is an intriguing taster from their upcoming album ‘No Refunds’.
Panchiko’s new single ‘One Car Hits Another’ featuring Mei Semones
Founding member Andy Wright describes the mood here as “a serene waltz of a car crash,” which feels exactly right. Britpop DNA twisted into something more contemporary and strange.
Skepta’s new single ‘Pandora’s Box’
Grime’s elder statesman, still opening things that can’t be closed. Further proof he’s got a timeless flow, whatever the beat.
Bassvictim’s new single ‘White Flag’
Vulnerable songwriting pushed up against confrontational club music. Feral and indie-sleazy in its sonic nature.
Fine’s new album ‘Jazz Dreams’
Woozy and dreamlike, somewhere between Cowboy Junkies and Mazzy Star, lush and minimal at once. Fine writes, produces and records everything herself, and it sounds like it: thirteen songs that play like a collage.
