Kirk and company worked on wrapping up the Original Series branch of the space opera on the big screen. Although the adventures of the USS Enterprise-D did occasionally bring Patrick Stewart’s Captain Picard and his crew into contact with certain legacy characters like Spock (Leonard Nimoy), The Next Generation was treated as something of a soft reboot. It wasn’t the first Star Trek project to do this, and it certainly won’t be the last.
