Standard Chartered VCC Platform Hits $2.6bn AUM with 10th Sub-Fund
Standard Chartered has crossed $2.6 billion in assets under management on its Variable Capital Company platform, marking the milestone alongside the launch of a tenth sub-fund in partnership with BNY Investments. The Signature Select Premium Cash Reserve Fund is an enhanced cash management product managed by Insight Investment, the fixed income arm of BNY Investments, and will be made available to Accredited and Professional Investor clients across Priority, Priority Private and Private Banking segments in Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, Jersey, Kenya and Nigeria.
The fund targets returns above the Secured Overnight Financing Rate by investing in a diversified portfolio of high-quality short-term fixed income and money market instruments, with daily liquidity. It is the bank’s fifth VCC sub-fund launch in 2026 and comes roughly two years after the platform was established in June 2024.
The deal

Sumeet Bhambri, global head of advisory and managed investments at Standard Chartered, noted that the $2.6 billion figure reflects “strong momentum” since inception and framed the bank’s approach as delivering institutionally managed strategies through partnerships with external asset managers rather than building proprietary funds. The VCC structure, established under Singapore’s regulatory framework, allows for multiple sub-funds under a single corporate umbrella, reducing administrative overhead and enabling faster fund launches.
Ayesha Abbas, managing director and head of affluent and wealth solutions for EMEA and the UAE at Standard Chartered, pointed to client demand for capital preservation alongside above-cash returns, citing “evolving market conditions” as the driver. Doni Shamsuddin, head of Asia Pacific at BNY Investments, said cash was playing an increasingly important role in portfolio construction as investors sought resilience and flexibility.
The UAE sits at the centre of Standard Chartered’s regional pitch. The bank describes the country as a wealth hub benefiting from inflows of global talent and internationally mobile entrepreneurs, a characterisation that aligns with a broader competition among private banks and asset managers to capture a growing pool of high-net-worth capital in the Gulf.
Market context
The enhanced cash management category has attracted significant institutional attention since interest rates rose sharply from 2022 onwards. With central banks in several major economies beginning to ease, investors are now weighing whether to lock into longer-duration fixed income or maintain the optionality of short-duration, liquid instruments. A SOFR-linked, daily-liquidity product sits squarely in the second camp and is positioned as a holding vehicle rather than a long-term allocation.
Standard Chartered is not alone in pursuing this segment through a fund platform architecture. Several international private banks and wealth managers have used the Singapore VCC framework, introduced in 2020, to consolidate product manufacturing and reduce fund formation costs. The VCC’s pass-through tax treatment and flexible redemption rules make it an efficient vehicle for rolling out differentiated strategies to accredited clients across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the geographies where Standard Chartered has its deepest retail wealth franchise.
The bank’s partnership model, where it distributes funds managed by external specialists such as Insight Investment rather than running its own in-house investment teams, mirrors an asset-light approach common among distribution-led wealth platforms. The key commercial risk in that model is that the bank’s differentiation rests on curation and client access rather than investment alpha, which puts pressure on fund selection discipline and manager due diligence over time.
The next markers to watch are whether the platform reaches its next AUM threshold before the end of 2026 and which additional markets are added to the fund’s distribution list.
