Netflix’s Ray Gunn, the new animated action adventure movie from Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant), tells an original story, subverting and putting a fresh spin on familiar sci-fi and noir concepts. The result is a decently entertaining romp through a painstakingly crafted retrofuturistic world with great visual style. But Ray Gunn proves to be more flash than substance, and it’s not nearly as clever or deep as it wants audiences to believe.
