Over 1,000 tickets remain unsold for the World Cup final on Fifa’s resale site as some prices reach $2.3m.

Spain will take on Argentina on Sunday at New Jersey’s 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium – known during this tournament as the New York New Jersey Stadium – in the World Cup final as the 104th and final match closes the biggest edition in the sport’s history.

But just days away from kick-off, over 1,100 tickets remain unsold for the biggest game in football. 

There are a number of tickets being sold on Fifa’s official resale site for $3m, while the cheapest entry point for Sunday’s showpiece match is $7,900.

Tickets remain available in every tier and category of the MetLife stadium, while there is one ticket available for the Champions Cup – where a free bar, commemorative gift and buffet will set you back $19,000 – and one ticket remaining for the Fifa Pavilion, which will set a lucky fan back $17,000.

It comes amid reports that there are around 7,000 unsold tickets for the third-place play-off in Miami on Saturday between losing semi-finalists France and England.

Fifa takes a 15 per cent cut on the resale ticket value, with tickets starting at around $455 for the match teams despise playing.

Some tickets for Saturday’s match at the Hard Rock Stadium – known as the Miami Stadium for the duration of the World Cup – are being sold for between $1.7m and $3.3m as ambitious ticket holders look to cash in on the clash featuring two of Europe’s biggest teams.

Spain overcame France in the final four to reach a first World Cup final since their triumphant 2010 appearance.

England conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 to Argentina, before the South American team unfolded a controversial banner relating to the ownership of the Falkland Islands.
