According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned over $16.5 million by the middle of its opening day at the Chinese box office. Maoyan Entertainment, the country’s real-time ticket sales and data tracking system, also projected that the movie would gross $37.4 by the end of the day. The only other recent movie to come close to this total is 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, which opened to $36 million. Notably, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home did not make it to Chinese theaters due to its third act, which prominently featured the Statue of Liberty.
