‘Evil Dead Burn’ Review: A Gruesome Slog Lacks Scares & Subtlety
Evil Dead Burn is a gruesome and unforgiving technical exercise in mindless carnage. The sixth film in Sam Raimi’s horror franchise gives a slight nod and wink to the source material before bashing your eyeballs with unrepentant brutality. There isn’t a drop of humor or schlock value to be found here. The fun characters from classic entries like Army of Darkness and the TV series Ash vs Evil Deadare sadly absent. It’s an entirely forgettable standalone sequel in the vein of the Evil Dead reboot and Evil Dead Rise, where graphic gore becomes a weak substitute for genuine scares and an actual plot.
