Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Most Underrated ’90s Action Flick Gets Even Better After 30 Years
By 1996, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the biggest of the larger-than-life action stars. He’d saved his daughter while seeking revenge in Commando, taken out a dangerous alien in Predator, and survived the deadly game in The Running Man. He’d also bested a futuristic dictator in Total Recall, mastered comedy in Twins and Kindergarten Cop, and returned as a hero in Terminator 2. He’d also made fun of his persona in Last Action Hero. Where could one possibly go from here? In 1996, Arnold looked for a Christmas miracle in Jingle All the Way, while further building his action resume in Eraser. While Eraser made good at the box office, raking in $242 million on a $100 million budget, Rotten Tomatoes still has a critic and audience score below 50%. This action classic is verifiably underrated.
