Happy Monday. Stock futures were mixed as tech stocks bounced back from last week’s sell-off.
Intel (INTC) shares were climbing 4% in premarket trading after JPMorgan upgraded the computer maker from Underweight to Neutral with an unchanged price target of $85.
Markets closed lower on Friday as investors bailed on tech and artificial intelligence-related stocks due to growing doubts about the massive capital expenditures and returns on investment in AI.
“Markets are starting the week on a tentative recovery footing after last week’s sharp sell-off in US and Asian technology stocks, but Europe faces a more complicated set of challenges,” said Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com.
“The region benefited from its relatively defensive sector composition during the AI-led correction, with healthcare, financials and industrials providing some insulation from the pressure on highly valued technology companies.”
That resilience is now being tested by renewed political uncertainty, widening sovereign bond spreads and concerns about the sustainability of government finances, Hathorn said.
Several major companies are scheduled to report earnings this week, including Meta Platforms (META), Tesla (TSLA), IBM (IBM), Netflix (NFLX), General Motors (GM), and AT&T (T).
