As an avid horror/sci-fi consumer, I’ve always appreciated Alex Garland’s brand of cinematic storytelling. After Danny Boyle adapted the talented English filmmaker’s novel The Beach, the two reunited to make Sunshine and launch the popular 28 Days Later franchise. In the years since, Garland has proven to be a terrific director in his own right, demonstrated by eclectic movies and TV series such as Dredd (uncredited), Annihilation, Devs, Men, Civil War, and more. However, his 2014 directorial debut, which is free to view on YouTube, might be his absolute best to date.
