Free Things to Do in Brussels
The best free things to do in Brussels are not all outdoor photo stops. Combine the historic centre with a museum visit or a park and you can build a proper afternoon without paying an admission fee. Choose a compact route rather than trying to cover all six in one day.
At a glance: Outdoor landmarks do not require a museum ticket. Parlamentarium and House of European History offer free entry. Free admission can still involve booking or security checks.
1. Start at the Grand-Place
Look up at the guildhall façades instead of treating the square as a quick selfie stop. It is an easy starting point for visitors who want the historic centre. Nearby cafés and guided tours are separate purchases.
2. Walk the Royal Saint-Hubert Galleries
The covered galleries make a useful continuation from the square, especially when the weather turns. Walking through is free; the shops provide temptation rather than an obligation to buy anything.

3. Take in Mont des Arts
Add Mont des Arts for a change of level and a city view. It fits a central walk more naturally than a separate expedition across Brussels. Nearby museum admission is a different matter.
4. Visit the Parlamentarium
The European Parliament’s visitor centre offers free admission and a way into how the institution works. Check the official visiting arrangements, booking and security requirements before setting out. Free does not mean you can ignore entry procedures.
5. Explore the House of European History
This museum also offers free entry. Choose it when you want a substantial indoor visit rather than another walk between landmarks. Consult the current visitor information for opening hours and group arrangements.
6. Slow down in Cinquantenaire Park
Choose the park for an outdoor afternoon and the setting of its monumental arch. Access to the park is distinct from tickets for museums around it. For an easy plan, do the first three together; keep the European Quarter museums and Cinquantenaire for another outing.
