Nearly two months out from the biggest MCU release since Endgame, we still don’t really know what Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom wants, how the three colliding universes actually intersect, or what Chris Evans’ returning Steve Rogers has been doing since handing off the shield. The teasers that ran ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the CinemaCon trailer that drew mixed responses online, and the better-received Doom-focused special look from Comic-Con and D23 have all followed the same playbook of character moments over plot. That approach has mostly worked, with presales reportedly tracking ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s pace, though it also means every new piece of footage gets dissected for scraps.
