Wire, Cable Maker to Spend $256M on Mississippi Plant Expansion

Southwire is spending over $250 million on the expansion of its Starkville, Mississippi factory. Southwire is a Georgia-based wire and cable manufacturer that first acquired its Starkville plant in 1989.
The Starkville expansion project, which will add approximately 380,000 square feet to the location’s footprint and represents a corporate investment of more than $256 million, is expected to create approximately 130 new jobs.
Construction on the Starkville expansion is expected to begin in late 2026 with full capacity anticipated to come online in 2028.
The company’s expansion was announced as the first successful fee-in-lieu project ever in Oktibbeha County. In a fee-in-lieu agreement, companies that invest at least $60 million are exempt from property taxes for up to 10 years in exchange for a fee paid to the city, county and school district.
Once the expansion is complete, the facility’s monthly production of cable and electrical wire is expected to grow by about 300%.
