Co-owner of Premier League club Crystal Palace, David Blitzer, is part of a group that has announced a major update to a £3bn stadium development.

The American businessman, who became an early multi-franchise investor and was one of the first people to hold stakes in all five big North American leagues – NHL, MLB, MLS, NBA and NFL – is involved in a major development project that could one day be named after US President Donald Trump.

A £3bn development on the site of the old RFK Stadium in Washington DC will create a new home for NFL franchise the Washington Commanders, formerly the Washington Redskins.

And now, with the project under construction and due to be completed by the end of the decade, has issued an upgrade to its site.

The Washington Commanders have updated renders to include two huge parking decks that combined will hold up to 6,000 cars.

They will be split over the Washington DC site, with one set to be placed north of the stadium and the other in an area surrounded by residential buildings.

One major architectural feature of the new stadium will be an open and that’ll offer uninterrupted sightlines to the US Capitol building.

Washington Commanders upgrade

And the arena could yet be named after President Trump, with the Oval Office last year stating that the move would be a “beautiful” gesture by the franchise.

“It’s what the president wants, and it will probably happen,” local reporters were briefed.

Blitzer is joined by an ownership group that features long-term business partner Josh Harris – co-founder of Apollo Global Management – as well as NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Danaher Corp co-founder Mitchell Rales and venture capitalist Mark Ein.

HBSE – Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment – was co-founded by Blitzer, a shareholder in Premier League club Crystal Palace, alongside Harris, in 2017.

The HBSE portfolio includes the aforementioned Commanders, NHL side the New Jersey Devils and a Nascar team. Blitzer is also part of the consortium involved in NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, NBA’s Cleveland Guardians and MLS side Royal Salt Lake.

Beyond the States there are holdings for Blitzer, through Global Football Holdings, in Crystal Palace, Germany’s FC Augsburg, Denmark’s Brondby IF, Portugal’s Estoril Praia, Belgium’s Beveren, Spain’s Alcorcon and Dutch side ADO Den Haag.
