With 2026 on pace to register the best year at the box office since before the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s no wonder that so many iconic classics are being re-released each month. While that’s not a new practice by any means, the rise of the “cinephile” movement thanks to apps like Letterboxd, along with introductions to classic movies via TikTok clips have yielded more appetite for classic movies to find their way back to theaters. Gen Z in particular has helped buoy the box office, and studios have responded.
