Fantasy readers love to argue about magic systems, chosen ones, and which series deserves the biggest adaptation. Personally, I end up asking a different question. Which world would I miss if I could never visit it again? A great fantasy series gives me memorable characters and exciting battles. But one with masterful world-building convinces me that life carries on beyond the page. I finish the final book and find solace in the fact that I’ve only seen a small corner of a place that existed long before I peeked into it and will keep existing after I leave.
