79 Years Later, Filmmakers Solve Murder Case From Scarlett Johansson Film

The true crime genre has been booming in the streaming era. Both documentaries (Making a Murderer or OJ: Made in America) and dramatic series (Monster anthology series or Mindhunter) attract audiences every week. One of the top draws on Netflix in recent weeks has been Maternal Instinct, which our MovieWeb review describes the story as one of the “most vile” of the true crime canon. Our culture has been increasingly obsessed with such tales, morbid curiosity drawing us to the most sordid of details. However, there is one story that tops them all and remains unsolved for nearly eighty years. The case of Elizabeth Short, known posthumously as the Black Dahlia, and the focus of Scarlett Johansson‘s underrated 2006 movie aptly titled The Black Dahlia.
