When it comes to retcons, perhaps there’s no one better at changing their own established canon at the drop of a hat than author J.K. Rowling. She’s now known best for courting controversy (especially regarding her views on transgender people, which were allegedly toxic enough for Rowling to “decline attending” HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. Despite her current stances on certain socio-political issues, there was once a time, roughly 15 years ago, when Rowling’s Harry Potterfranchise retcons were not only welcome but even celebrated. (Oh, how innocent we all were back then.)
