The fate of Doctor Who has been confirmed. The BBC has announced that the 2026 Christmas special isn’t going ahead. In fact, it was never actually going to happen. Russell T Davies explained on his Instagram feed that “there was no script, and no actor was ever approached to play the Doctor.” The installment was only ever “cooked up” so that Doctor Who‘s future didn’t fall into complete disarray. In that same post, Davies confirmed that he was stepping down as showrunner, ending his second spell in charge of Doctor Who. That said, at least he also announced a “big new future for the show.” I’ll believe it when I see it.
