Roger Ebert Loved Stephen King’s Underrated Movie That’s “Like ‘Rosemary’s Baby’”
Like most famous film critics, the late Roger Ebert had a checkered relationship with movies based on Stephen King’s horror novels. After heaping praise on the adaptations of Carrie (3.5 stars) and Christine (3 stars), Ebert soured on Firestarter (2 stars) and Dreamcatcher (1.5 stars), as just a few examples. In 2004, King wrote an op-ed in Entertainment Weekly criticizing Ebert’s arbitrary “thumbs-up” review system. That sparked a minor feud between the two cultural tastemakers that was ultimately settled.
