When ‘Backrooms’ Will Stream on HBO Max
A24’s latest horror movie is a unique journey into the subgenre of liminal horror, which derives psychological terror from empty spaces and the uncanny valley. Backrooms, from filmmaker Kane Parsons in his feature directorial debut, chronicles one man’s accidental discovery and exploration of a mysterious, unsettling extradimensional labyrinth, known as the Complex or the Backrooms. Starring two Academy Award nominees in Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, Backrooms is based on a 4chan creepypasta that Parsons adapted into a popular YouTube series before directing the feature.
